The OPIC grading table, a representative foreign language speaking test, provides easy and detailed information. It is roughly grade 7 or specifically grade 9, and becomes useful from IM grade or higher.
The parts marked in purple are the 7 grades that exist on the OPIC grade table. OPIC is a test whose difficulty level can be evaluated only at the lowest level among the advanced categories. IM grades are subdivided from IM3 to IM3, so you can think of them as grade 9 in detail.
This is an example of the level of language ability possible for each grade.
The Novice level mainly provides beginner-level explanations, and up to the IL level, it expresses proficiency at the level of everyday conversation. Starting with the IM grade, the phrase “naturally” appears, and the highest grade, the AL grade, contains the word “proficiency.” This allows you to briefly know your level of language proficiency.
The highest score based on OPI is Advanced Low and AL levels, and if proof of language proficiency above is required, you must take the OPI test. The OPI exam can obtain AM, AH, and even Superior grades.

There are many grading tables that compare AL grade levels with other exams. This has not been officially decided, so there are a lot of opinions and data floating around. In general, it is evaluated at the level of someone who scores at least 950 or higher on the TOEIC standard.
The most concentrated grades in OPIC are Intermediate Mid and IM grades, which is why they are subdivided into IM3, IM2, and IM1 grades. IM3 can be considered a higher level, and in terms of language proficiency, IH and IM3 are at a higher level than IM2 and IM1.
In order to access OPIC for employment or additional points, the first priority is to follow the requirements of the place where I am needed. In other words, it’s just an example, but if you only require NH grade, it doesn’t matter if it’s that level.
However, in most cases, you must have at least an IM grade to be able to apply for employment or obtain additional benefits. Just as in the past there were common standards such as TOEIC scores of 700 and 800 that were considered the minimum score for employment, IM is the level at which most applicants are located and the minimum requirement at OPIC.
For grade N, including IL, the score has virtually no effect on employment. However, as mentioned above, conditions may be low in places where language skills are not considered highly, and in this case, meeting only the minimum conditions is sufficient.
