▼ How to use Korean Air mileage
Due to the recent COVID-19 incident, it seems that many people are worried that their mileage expiration date is approaching and they cannot use it.
To conclude, in my opinion, Korean Air mileage is most beneficial when used to purchase ‘bonus tickets’ or ‘seat upgrade bonuses.’

If you go to the Korean Air website and go to the My Page [Mileage Use] category, you can use it in various ways.

Can be used for logo products / coat room bonus / hotel / limousine / cultural experience / lounge bonus, etc.

○Logo products: We sell travel pouches, eco bags, passport wallets, tumblers, carrier stickers, water, model airplanes, etc.
(Mileage deduction rate varies by product)
○Coat room service: When traveling overseas, you can calculate the cost of using a coat room where you can leave your coat as mileage.
(400 miles deducted per item/day of storage)
○Hotels: Seogwipo kal Hotel, Jeju kal Hotel, Grand Hyatt Incheon, Waikiki Hotolulu Hotel, InterContinental LA Downtown Hotel
(Deduction rate varies depending on hotel and date)
○Limousine: Use kal limousine (Incheon Airport/Gimpo Airport ↔ Within Seoul)
(Currently, some sections are suspended due to COVID-19 – as of June 19, 2020)
○Cultural experience: Hanwha Aqua Planet Jeju, KidZania, Jeju Folk Village
(Currently restricted use of some programs due to COVID-19)
○Lounge: You can use mileage to use the Prestige Lounge operated by Korean Air.
(Available at the departure airport on the day of boarding the flight ticketed with Korean Air flight number. International flights 4,000 miles/person, domestic flights 2,000 miles/person)
○Excess baggage: Available only when boarding Korean Air. Deduction rates vary depending on number/weight/volume.

However, the method I would like to recommend is purchasing award tickets and seat upgrades.
If you have a lot of mileage validity remaining, it would be a good idea to know how to purchase it and use it when it is available.

▼ How to earn Korean Air mileage

There are many different ways to earn mileage.
Airline boarding / credit cards / partner airlines / hotels / rental cars / other partners, etc.

○Air boarding:
– When making a Korean Air reservation or checking in at the airport, tell the staff your SKYPASS membership number or enter it at the kiosk (machine) and your mileage will be automatically accumulated after boarding.
– Application for mileage accumulation after boarding is only possible within one year from the boarding date.
(If you boarded Korean Air or a SkyTeam airline and forgot to accrue mileage, you can go to the [My Mileage – Earn mileage after boarding] category within one year, check your ticket receipt and boarding pass information, and apply for accrual.)
– Airline tickets on which mileage accumulation is not possible: mileage bonus tickets, airline tickets for infants under 2 years of age, discounted airline tickets with conditions that do not allow mileage accumulation, and airline tickets boarded before the SKYPASS membership registration date.
– Mileage validity period: Mileage earned on Korean Air or partner airlines from July 1, 2008 has a 10-year validity period based on the boarding date, until December 31st (Korean time) of the 10th year. Can be used.
– When using a Korean Air code share flight, mileage can only be accumulated if the ticket is issued under a Korean Air flight number.
– When boarding a partner airline, mileage accumulation standards for each airline apply.

※ The accumulation rate varies depending on the class of ticket I reserved.
(Based on the boarding date until March 31, 2021. After that, the regulations will change.)
Therefore, please remember that the accumulated mileage below is not 100% accumulated, but if it is a non-accrual class (special price or low fare), it cannot be accumulated at all, and the accumulation rate varies depending on the class, such as 70%, 80%, 100%, etc.!

○ Affiliate credit card
If you are interested in mileage accumulation, you have probably seen it at least once. This is a method of partnering with a credit card company and accumulating mileage based on card use. This is the savings method I also use.
Check cards have a low accumulation rate, but credit cards are advantageous for accumulating more.
Recommending a card is a bit sensitive, so I will tell you the check card I use.

Also, I am using Hana Card’s Viva Check Card, but it is currently discontinued, so I will not provide you with separate information.
The Korean Air website provides detailed information, so if you would like to obtain other card information, please visit the Korean Air website.

○ Partner airlines (SkyTeam airlines)
This part is a really useful tip! I think this is something that many people are missing.
Korean Air is a member of SkyTeam, and there are various airlines within SkyTeam.
If I were to board a SkyTeam airline, Air France. In this case, SKYPASS mileage accumulation is possible.
(Accounts may not be available depending on class/segment)
Therefore, in case you don’t know, please remember the airlines below and contact the reservation representative or customer service center when you need to use them.
“Can my ticket earn ‘Skypass mileage’?” You can ask, and if it says that points are available, you can request points when making a reservation and checking in at the airport.

– Mileage accrual is not possible for charter flights on partner airlines, and when using code share flights on partner airlines, mileage accrual may vary depending on the actual operating airline.
– Mileage provision conditions and accumulation rates may change or be discontinued depending on the terms of the contract with the partner airline or the circumstances of the partner airline.

In addition, you can also accumulate Korean Air mileage when using hotels and rental cars.
Please refer to the website for further details. (Please understand that the content is so extensive that it cannot be included together.)
