What is K-Pass?
K-Pass is a card that allows you to get a partial refund if you use public transportation more than 15 times a month. As a public transportation support project implemented by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the existing economical transportation card will be upgraded and implemented from May 1, 2024.
The economical transportation card is a card that allows you to earn mileage benefits based on the distance you walk or bike while using public transportation. It started in 2018 and expanded nationwide in 2021.
Existing economical transportation cards had the inconvenience of having to record departure and arrival through the app each time to accumulate mileage. K-Pass is a card that complements the inconveniences of these economical transportation cards and increases the benefits. If you use public transportation at least 15 times a month, you will receive a refund of a certain percentage of the amount spent the following month. Refund benefits apply up to 60 times per month.

The scope of use of K-Pass has expanded compared to existing economical transportation cards. More public transportation users can benefit.
1. It can be used nationwide. It can be used anywhere in the country except local governments with a population of less than 100,000.
2. You can use various means of transportation. Benefits have been expanded to include subways, city buses, metropolitan buses, Shinbundang Line, and GTX. However, for high-cost metropolitan buses, GTX-A, etc., there may be an upper limit on refund amount.
How to convert the economical transportation card K-Pass
You can use your existing economical transportation card as a K-Pass. However, you must go through the membership conversion process on the Altteul Transportation Card website (www.alcard.kr) by the end of June.
Users who converted before the implementation of K-Pass can receive benefits immediately after implementation, and users who converted after implementation will receive benefits only after the conversion process is completed. Also, once the conversion period ends, you will have to go through a separate K-Pass new membership registration process, so it would be a good idea to prepare in advance, right?
How to issue a new K-Pass
You can apply for K-Pass at card companies such as Kookmin, Nonghyup, BC, Samsung, and Shinhan. Just because you get a card doesn’t mean the benefits will be applied right away. You must go through the new membership registration process on the K-Pass website (korea-pass.kr) or app, which will be open starting May 1.
