What is a passport information certificate?
A passport information certificate is a document that allows you to check your resident registration number along with your passport issuance information.
Since the last digits of the resident registration number are not written on new passports (electronic passports) issued after December 21, 2021, you must submit a passport information certificate together when using a passport as a substitute for an ID card.
Applications are available for passports issued after 2016. Passport information certificates can be issued in both Korean and English. When traveling abroad, you must obtain an English passport information certificate, but it is a good idea to know the differences between the Korean and English versions. Let’s find out below.
Differences between Korean and English Passport Information Certificates
Passport information certificates can be issued in both Korean and English.
The Korean passport information certificate can confirm the passport issuance information and resident registration number, and is submitted together with the passport when used as a substitute for an ID card.
The English passport information certificate is used when using a passport as a substitute for an ID card overseas, and since it is an official document confirming nationality, the English passport information certificate has a blue seal of the Republic of Korea instead of the seal of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

How to issue a passport information certificate
Passport information certificates can be issued online at Government 24, and the issuance fee is free.
First, access Government 24.
Search for passport information certificate
Enter passport information certificate in the search field.
Then, the passport information certificate issuance will appear next to it. Select either Korean or English and click.
Click Apply for issuance.
If you authenticate yourself with simple authentication, the applicant information input screen will appear.
Enter your applicant information and click Search next to the Resident Registration Number input field. (If you do not click Search, it will say that you are not eligible for application when applying for a civil complaint, so you must search first.)

After checking the search information, click Apply for Civil Complaint. Please wait a moment for the results to appear, then click Print Document to print them.
