There are two types of childbirth subsidies: those provided by region and those provided by the government. Since information about regional subsidies varies by region, please check the details of the subsidies in your region through the link below.
Check maternity support by region
Government subsidies include first meeting vouchers, child allowances, parental benefits, and childcare allowances.
1. First meeting ticket
It is a one-time subsidy per birth and has been in effect since 2022. ‘Babies born in 2024 will receive a 2 million won voucher and can use the National Happiness Card issued by a card company of their choice. When paying with the issued card, the amount paid on the voucher will be deducted first.
2. Child allowance
This is a system that pays 100,000 per month to children under the age of 8, and it is paid to the account you applied for on the 25th of every month. You must apply unconditionally because it is a universal payment for everyone, regardless of their income and assets.
3. Parental benefits
This is a new item created in 2023 and has been changed from the previous name, “Infant Allowance.” In 2024, 1 million won per month will be paid to children aged 0 to 11 months (0 years old), and 500,000 won will be paid to children aged 12 to 23 months (1 year old). If you use a daycare center instead of home childcare, you will be given a daycare voucher and the difference between the voucher and the subsidy will be paid.
4. Childcare allowance
Childcare allowance is provided only when caring for infants and toddlers at home without using daycare centers, kindergartens (including special schools), or full-day child care services. Support is available regardless of income level, and is provided to children under 86 months of age by February of the first year of elementary school.
The maternity subsidy application service can be processed through a single integrated application, and applicants can apply for either the person giving birth (mother) or the spouse. 2. How to apply for visit
Please visit the community center in the eup, myeon, or dong of the birthplace, fill out the application form, submit it, and check the application results. When applying in person, you must bring your ID card and confirm your customer number to receive a discount on utility charges. After completing the application, the discount for electricity, gas, and district heating will be reflected on your monthly bill.
In an era of low birth rates, childbirth support benefits are continuously being supplemented or newly created.
