On the 17th, Google released the Chrome 87 update. Google Chrome 87, which is evaluated as ‘the update that shows the biggest improvement in Chrome performance in years’ through improvement of internal functions. I’ll give it to you 😀
Google Chrome 87 main features
1. Loading speed is faster.
Chrome 87 starts up 25% faster and loads pages 7% faster. Reduced power consumption and RAM usage for better battery and better performance. Chrome 87 frees up RAM and CPU by suspending tabs running in the background and only activating it once every 5 minutes. Google says it will cut CPU usage by up to 5x and extend the battery by up to 1.25 hours.
2. Disable FTP
I have stopped using ftp, which is less frequently used. Now when I enter a website that starts with ftp:// into the address bar, nothing happens. If you want to run this protocol, you can re-enable it in the flags.

Google is expanding the types of content that are blocked when downloading in http communication. This is to ensure that Chrome users can only download safe files through https secure pages. Chrome 87 also blocks document files with extensions such as PDF and Word (docx) along with previously blocked executable files, compressed files, disk images, archive files, etc. (Please refer to the next chapter for details.) Forms that are not submitted with https will not be able to use the Chrome AutoFill feature.
Can’t download anything other than https?
Starting with Chrome 84, Google has implemented a ‘mixed content download’ restriction policy so that https secure pages only download secure files. Mixed Contents Download means an http non-secure download that runs on an https secure page. For example, within an https site with an SSL certificate installed, when the download link is http, etc. In this case, you need to be careful because when you download a file, it is easy to be a target for an attack because it cannot check whether a secure https connection is established.
Google is gradually limiting these mixed content downloads, starting with the desktop version (Windows, MacOS, Chrome OS, Linux, etc.) Chrome 81. According to plans announced by Google, the latest version of Chrome 87 will block all insecure downloads except for media content such as images, audio and video. Blocked extensions include exe, apk, zip, iso, pdf, docx, and more. In addition, media content also warns that it is an unsafe download with a warning message.
With the upcoming January 2021 update, Chrome 88 will block all unsafe downloads, including images, audio, video, and more. In mobile environments such as Android and iOS, Chrome starts warning from Chrome 85. Developers can prevent users from seeing download warnings by ensuring that downloads only use https.
Google is continuing to take measures to strengthen https security, including this measure to block http downloads, as well as ending support for older versions of TLS. After the Google 87 update, downloads of most files except images are blocked in the http environment, and images cannot be downloaded after the Chrome 88 update in 2021. Google recommends moving to https as soon as possible for smooth site operation and user protection.
Update to the latest version of Google Chrome
(Desktop version)
1. Open Chrome and click More-Settings in the upper right corner.
2. On the Settings screen, click the About Chrome menu.
3. Click Update Chrome to update.
