Today, we would like to inform all citizens using public transportation in Busan about the Dongbaek Pass, the nation’s first integrated public transportation discount system that will be implemented from August 1, 2023. Dongbaekjeon is the name of the local currency in Busan, created by combining ‘camellia flower’, the symbol of Busan city, and ‘jeon’, which means currency. It is meant to provide 100 kinds of happiness and joy through revitalizing consumption of Busan citizens and small business owners.

What is Dongbaek Pass?
Dongbaek Pass is the first public transportation integrated discount system implemented by Busan City in the country. You can receive benefits only if you register for the Dongbaek Pass service on the Dongbaekjeon application and use public transportation with a Dongbaekjeon postpaid transportation card. Dongbaekjeon is the local currency of Busan and is an electronic currency that can be used at affiliated stores certified by Busan City. The Dongbaekjeon application can be downloaded for Android and iPhone.

Dongbaek Pass Benefits
The biggest benefit of Dongbaek Pass is Dongbaekjeon monthly cashback. Most notably, if the public transportation fare exceeds 45,000 won per month, the entire excess amount will be cashed back to Dongbaekjeon.
For example, if you used public transportation fare of 60,000 won in August, 15,000 won of Dongbaekjeon will be cashed back on September 10th. The usage limit is 90,000 won per month, and you can receive up to 45,000 won back. Cashbacked Dongbaekjeon is valid for 6 months from August, and can be paid at affiliated stores or transferred to other users.
Dongbaekjeon Benefits
Dongbaekjeon can be used at credit card merchants and places that use IC card terminals within Busan Metropolitan City.
However, it cannot be used in department stores, large supermarkets, entertainment bars, and online shopping malls.

How to use the Dongbaek Pass
To use the Dongbaek Pass, you must first apply for the service through the Dongbaekjeon application. Next, you must obtain a Dongbaekjeon postpaid transportation card. Currently, only cards issued by BNK Busan Bank are available, but from October, cards issued by Hana Card and Nonghyup Bank will also be available. You can apply for card issuance at an offline branch or online website.
The card issuance fee is free for the first card, and 2,000 won for reissuance.
The Dongbaek Pass can be used on Busan city buses, village buses, urban rail, light rail, and Donghae Line.

How to apply for Dongbaek Pass affiliated stores
In accordance with the enforcement of the law to promote the use of local love gift certificates, registration of affiliated stores for Dongbaekjeon payments has become mandatory. Therefore, even stores operating without a separate franchise application may have their Dongbaekjeon payments restricted if they are not registered.
